What are the benefits of joining the Knights of Columbus? We are the largest lay Catholic organization in the world, comprised of over 1.8 million members worldwide. Founded in 1882 by a Parish Priest, Fr. Michael J. McGivney, the Order exists to serve the Church and community with a wide variety of volunteer and philanthropic activities. It is a proponent of family life, and has a large voluntary fraternal benefits program that can ensure your financial security for the future. Fr. McGivney’s dream was to grow a community of faith, charity and service. In short a community were – “We Change Lives and We Save Lives”.
As a member of the Knights of Columbus you would participate in programs like the American Wheelchair Mission, a program that provides wheelchairs to disabled veterans and people in under developed countries.
The annual Fund Drive for People with Intellectual Disabilities provides assistance to those with special needs, including organizations like the Special Olympics, Work Training Centers and residential care facilities.
The Knights of Columbus RSVP Program provides financial support to seminarians and future Priests.
Food for Families provides temporary assistance for those in need. And there are many, many others.
This year we launch our third year of a Five Year Membership Plan for the State of California with the goal of recruiting over 5,000 new members. You are an essential part of this. The more members we have, the more we can give and accomplish. Our membership has spanned the generations, adapting itself to changing needs and times. At our very foundation is our common belief in the Catholic Church, which has remained steadfast through the generations for over 2000 years.
